Rors Product Review – July ’16

For this month, I wanted to introduce you to the simply brilliant TC Electronic PolyTune Clip Tuner.  I came across clip-on tuners when I played live with legendary guitarist Paul Gilbert back in Sept ’12. There was me fiddling with my pedalboard tuner and he simply went back stage and tuned up at his leisure – brilliant!  Since then I have tried other brands, BUT the PolyTune has come up trumps so it’s a keeper and a Rors Recommend for sure.

Below are (5) additional reasons why you should consider TC Electronic’s PolyTune Clip Tuner for your instrument:

1 – High power LED display

2 – Automatic tilt feature, so it visually adjusts wherever you have it on the headstock

3 – Polyphonic/various tuning features

4 – Lightening fast response with 0.02% tuning precision

5 – Beautiful, Apple / iProduct like feel to it!

Rors Product Review – May ’16

This month I wanted to share with you a super cool pickup brand called Lace Pickups.  One of my students who has spent a considerable amount of time researching something a little bit different pickup wise for his Fender USA P Bass, came up with with Lace and I joke you not, the depth of tone from his Lace ALuma-P’s that my bro has just fitted on his bass is amazing….It’s also really rewarding when I get educated about a product I wasn’t aware of in the market!

Lace Pickups manufacture Split, single coil, soapbar as well as humbucking pickups.

Below are (5) additional reasons why you should consider Lace Pickups as your first point of call IF you were thinking about a pickup replacement for your instrument:

1 – Good value for money

2 – Probably the prettiest pickup brand on the market – check out the chrome finish!

3 – Seismic boost in both treble and bass tone

4 – Different from the norm

5 – Rolled edges for perfect thumb placement for right hand position.

Every month starting from now, I am going to review a bass related product or service that might be of interest to you all. This month I wanted to share with you a very cool tool, something that would make a great addition to your chosen instrument.  May I present the Hipshot Bass Xtender.

Below are (5) additional reasons why you should consider a Hipshot Bass Xtender for your instrument:

1 – The ability to alternate between 2 – 3 different tunings

2 – Many of your favourite bands already play in drop d tuning

3 – Enhances low end range

4 – Being able to play in the key of D quickly by the flick of a lever!

Rockschool Releases it’s New Popular Music Theory Syllabus

Rockschool has just released it’s New Popular Music Theory Syllabus, which is perfect for those that wish to work on their theoretical development.  This is what Rockschool are saying about their new theory syllabus:

Regardless of your aspirations or stylistic preferences, the quest to become a more accomplished, expressive and articulate musician is a never-ending journey. This is a journey that is made infinitely more accessible through the acquisition of sound, theoretical and practical fundamentals.

The term ‘music theory’ has all-too-often been associated with non-practical, academic-based studies. The perception is often of exams, and texts, which are devoid of industry relevant, practical application and separate from the modern, genre-specific preferences of the student.

We at Rockschool are passionate about changing this perception.

To find out more about the workbooks and guidebooks now available, please go to: https://www.rockschool.co.uk/books-and-apps/popular-music-theory/
